Welcome to the online version of the Interactive Guide to Working Safely with Beryllium and Beryllium-containing Materials. This Interactive Guide was created to provide employers and employees throughout the supply chain with guidance to working safely with beryllium and beryllium-containing materials. This innovative guide uses the latest computer-based e-learning technologies to bring you beryllium hazard communication training customized specifically to the work you perform. All you have to do is provide input on the operations and tasks you perform. The program then provides you guidance on what you need to know and what you need to do to work safely with beryllium and beryllium-containing materials. The end result is a better informed worker and employer who can work together to help ensure a safe workplace.
The main tool introduced in this Interactive Guide is the 8-step beryllium Worker Protection Model (WPM) that describes beryllium health and safety practices in a format that is easy-to-understand and navigate. The purpose of the WPM is to prevent chronic beryllium disease. Applying the beryllium WPM can be as simple as requiring those types of controls typically found in most industrial operations to requiring significant additional controls and full consideration of all elements of this model.
